My Experience & Hobbies

Well first of all I should really introduce myself, so, hello, I’m Mike Carroll, the creator of this site and the work featured.

I like to think of myself as a ‘new media freelancer’ that provides creative services to companies across the globe. My approach is to provide the highest level of creative services, at minimal cost.

So a little bit about me – I have over 10 years experience working with websites, the last 5 of those years working full-time for various companies/studios, the rest – freelance. My Main skills are – Designing & building websites/software applications, Photo/Video Editing, Sketching, 3D Modelling & Animation and a bit of photography (whenever I can). I’m currently working for Equinox Design in North Vancouver, BC and really loving it.

I really try to enjoy life

I try to live an active lifestyle – working out a few times a week, mountain biking and playing football at weekends, and doing as many other fun, physical things I can squeeze in-between.

Design wise I like to take inspiration from the places I visit and the things I do, be it dodging trees on my Snowboard or eating fantastic food in rustic restaurants in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.

It’s an old and obvious cliché, but it’s a good one – work hard; play hard – I use this motto in life and I try to enjoy every second.

Mountain Biking

I love the outdoors and going fast. When I’m not glued to a computer screen I like to cycle up Vancouver’s North Shore mountains to get a great workout, an adrenaline boost, and the perfect place to view beautiful Vancouver. Coming down is a lot more fun than peddling up!!

Also, when I can, I like to head up to Whistler Bike Park and hit a few of the trails there. The picture to the right is me jumping off the GLC drop @ Whistler.

Playing Football (Soccer)

It’s a little different to England!!

I have recently joined Norvan Pacific F.C who play in the VMSL Premier (Vancouver Metro Soccer League).

It’s a little different from playing Semi-Pro back in England, that’s for sure! It’s fun and the facilities are great (Artificial Turf is actually really good), it’s just a shame Soccer in Canada is the 5th most popular sport, sitting just behind curling, of course.

Snowboarding

As I mentioned, I love the outdoors and going fast. Unfortunately, I’m pretty new at Snowboarding still so I’m not actually going anywhere fast. I’m a fast learner though and mastered linking turns on my 2nd attempt. Vancouver’s North Shore Mountains have some really great ski slopes.

There’s also that luxury powder up at Whistler, although I like to stick to the small North Shore mountains for now until I’m good enough to grace those Whistler runs again.
